Burn Out

As we continue to survive and thrive in this pandemic known as COVID-19. We are filled with burnout, anxiety, depression, and bereavement, just to name a few. We thought 2021, would wipe away all of those feelings of despair.  But, we know that is not what happened. So we are two months into the new year.  What is burnout? How are you feeling? What do we do? How do we survive?

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.

Let’s look at the 5 stages of burnout.

Honeymoon Phase. When we undertake a new task, we often start by experiencing high job satisfaction, commitment, energy, and creativity. …

Onset of Stress. The second stage of burnout begins with an awareness of some days being more difficult than others. …

Chronic stress. This is a marked change in your stress levels, going from motivation, to experiencing stress on an incredibly frequent basis.

Burnout. Entering stage four is burnout itself, where symptoms become critical. Continuing as normal is often not possible in this state as it becomes increasingly difficult to cope

Habitual Burnout. This means that the symptoms of burnout are so embedded in your life that you are likely to experience a significant ongoing mental, physical or emotional problem, as opposed to occasionally experiencing stress or burnout.(Aug 20, 2020 5-stages-of-burnout).
